A Call for General Elections Monday March the 14th, 2011

Dear friends and colleagues, Sisters and Brothers in the Ethnic Press and Media:

As the first month of the New Year is coming to the end I want to inform you of some developments taking place around us.

First of all I want to express our appreciation to Hon. Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue and also the Hon. Sophia Aggelonitis, Minister of Revenue Ontario, for their understanding and support of the industry and particular of the sector. To this extend please allow me to bring to your attention that now I have received a letter from the Minister of national Revenue confirming that  we exempted of HST at the “Point of Sales”, which means that we don’t pay HST to printers when we receive our papers. Also, Minister Ashield, confirms that the portion of 8% rebate is available at any point in the distribution chain of a qualifying newspaper.

In order to help every member facing this problem, Asha takes action and she is preparing a copy of the two letters, signed by the Ministers, for our members.

The letters are going to be available together with our agenda of the upcoming monthly meeting of February the 14th, 2011, at committee room N# 2, Main Legislative Building, Queen’s park, Toronto Ontario.

Please make yourself available that day in order to receive your copy and avoid further problems of this nature in the future.

Taking this opportunity I want to remind you that according the articles and provisions of our constitution I am calling for our by-annual General Meeting of the membership and also the declared general elections for the renewal of the board of directors and the elections of a new executive committee of the organization. The elections are taking place on Monday March 14th, 2011, at Committee Room N#2 , main Legislative Building, Queen’s Park, Toronto Ontario and also every member in good standing can participate by casting his/her vote via internet to tajdolati@gmail.com . Dr. Tajdolati is our ombudsman and as our chief arbitrator he is responsible for the democratic procedure of the elections. At the end of February we are going to inform you about the candidates and is up to you to elect whom you believe is better equipped to serve your interests. At this point I want to remind you to submit your name if you want to serve the industry and the sector. If you have the time and energy I encourage you to do so.

Also I want to bring to your attention that the book of the Hon. Tony Ruprecht, MPP, “Toronto’s Many Faces”, fifth edition, is printed and is on the market. It is a great book and a guide of the multicultural Toronto, which is featuring the profile of more than 60 ethnic communities of Toronto and their cultural characteristics.

The official presentation of the book will be lunched on Wednesday February 23, 2011, at Queen’s Park, Main Loby of the building at 6:15 pm. The Hon. Steve Peters, Speaker of the Legislature and host of the event is extending an invitation to all our members for the presentation of the book. I encourage you all to be part of this historic event for the multicultural Toronto.

If you are planning to attend please RSVP: truprecht@live.ca .

Thank you and see you all on Monday February 14th, 2011 for our monthly meeting.

Thanking you again,

In Solidarity,

Thomas S. Saras
